KSG Employees Harmony in Diversity

BY MARIAN MORAA
They find harmony in their diversity. The Kenya School of Government employees have proven to be full of talents, innovativeness, and ideal work ethics which add value to the institution. To the School‘s Human Resource Department, this is a culture that must be nurtured and protected.

In an interview, the Bulletin Writer
gathered that there are initiatives through which the School brings together her employees, across various departments with an aim of promoting integration.
Indeed, the acting Human Resource Manager, Mrs. Florence Wanguku, says that the School endeavours to create a conducive environment for employees to deliver excellent service besides advocating for
improved relations.

The School‘s Human Resource Department is actively working towards fostering constructive workplace relationships. The department appreciates that building positive relationships amongst staff often helps employees get their job done well, she said.
Noting that the School has created social platforms for employees to interact outside their daily work and routine expectations, Mrs. Wanguku said to achieve this goal, the HR Department continues to implement strategies that will improve professional interactions among employees.
She disclosed that some of the initiatives the School boasts of include the establishment of a Football Team, and a School Choir through which talent is nurtured, besides providing a platform through which employees from various departments meet and socialize.

The HR Manager further noted that plans are underway for a team building activity that will unite staff from all the campuses. She indicated that, in collaboration with the Corporate Communications Department, her Department is also working on a plan to roll our Corporate Social Responsibility activities that will require participation of employees in various communal and social events.
Mrs. Wanguku was quick to point out that integration and great relationships at the workplace cannot be achieved by the Human Resource Department alone.

At KSG, the culture of positive relations among staff of all levels has been fostered and gradually
improved. It is, therefore, upon every employee to proactively develop a closer bond with other members of staff with whom they spend most of their time. Working together creates opportunities to learn from one another,? Mrs. Wanguku advised.
In order to further improve workplace relations, the HR Manager had a proposal: ?We should individually be open to embrace diversity by accepting one another regardless of gender, sex, rank, religion or any cord that makes us different. By complementing one another, we create a culture of building each other rather than pulling one another down?

Research has proven that one of the ways to build positive professional relationships is to let others know who you are. This can come by sharing one‘s expertise, knowledge and personality at meetings. In so doing, other people will either get to know you, like you or want to hear more from you. They will find you more approachable and that creates an opportunity for building positive interactions.
